Geneva (Switzerland), 24 April 2009 _ The Geneva Convention is meant to give people freedom and take care of them, especially those who are being persecuted for political or racial reasons, but even in the country of this noble declaration, this is not always the case. A small panel met to give a brief talk about the struggles of African women when migrating or moving to new countries in Europe and the ‘double discrimination’ many of them face inSwitzerland, due to their African roots and as women.

Rivers, streams or springs have given their names to people, villages, towns, cities, nations and countries and have usually served as market places, roads for traffic and places to celebrate funerals or marriage ceremonies. Every extended family or tribe evolves its distinct ethical code with their springs, streams, rivers, oceans or any other water sources. Water therefore links families, people and communities, and a glass of water is one of the unwritten norms and codes of acceptance.
